Stratton Creek Inn
Our History
An idyllic property situated on over 50 acres bordered by the Cayuga Inlet. This valley known as “Stratton” is one of five hamlets that form the Town of Newfield, NY. We chose to blend both of these histories in naming our place the Stratton Creek Inn.
Originally cleared by two brothers—Christopher and David Snyder in the mid 1800’s, the current farmhouse and barn were completed circa 1900 by David’s widow Adelia who, along with her 5 children farmed the land and built a show-stopping barn from the finest imported timbers and exquisite joinery.
Each of our 5 bedrooms in the main house is named after Adelia and David’s children. (An ironic fact of this wedding venue is that four of the five children never married!) Having outlived his siblings, Frank willed the property to his beloved alma mater Cornell University in the 1950’s. Quite uncharacteristically, Cornell quickly sold the property into private hands which has allowed it to continually serve as either a single family home, or more recently as a bed and breakfast.
It is our privilege and pleasure to share with you all of which The Stratton Creek Inn has to offer. We owe a debt of gratitude to all who have built, farmed, and shared this special place throughout the generations.
